Roll The Bones

One of these bones is not like the others...

Saturday evening Daniel bonked his hand on the floor, and hit it just right. Or rather, just wrong. And got himself a fractured metacarpal.

Apparently these heal pretty easily (in kids his age, at least). He got a splint and sling at the emergency room Saturday night, but today the hand specialist took that off and just taped the little finger to the ring finger. He said that as long as the finger is moving correctly (which he'll have to check next week after the swelling goes down more), the bone will heal and straighten itself over time. For now, though, no skiing or kendo for the next month. And he's getting pretty good at eating and writing with his left hand.

(Bonus question: why is it that kids always hurt themselves on Saturday or Sunday night???)

Too bad for Daniel, but glad it should be fine. Cool pic!

Answer to the bonus question. It is the amazing Sundayitis that manifests its self in various signs/symptoms/conditions. Too bad for you it resulted in a trip to the ER. We have already noticed it with Douglas. My guess is that the change in schedule and extra time on the weekend results in more dangerous behavior. We're glad that he is doing well and hope that he can resume normal activities soon. But as a bonus he is learning how to be ambidextrous!

That is the only time our kids get sick or seriously hurt themselves.
