Jefferson

After the Vietnam Memorial we headed for the Jefferson Monument. It's a long walk. On the way we also saw the Vietnam Women's Memorial...

...the Korean War Memorial...

...the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial...

...the District of Columbia World War Memorial (obviously built before they knew there would be more than one "world war")...

...the sakura trees along the tidal pool (unfortunately not in bloom) and a stone pagoda also donated by Japan...

...and the George Mason Monument...

...before finally reaching the Jefferson Memorial.

The Jefferson Memorial was really cool, partly because I like Jefferson (probably my third favorite president), partly because it's a very nice monument (much like the Lincoln Memorial), but also because down underneath there is a little museum with displays about Jefferson's life and contributions. I'd forgotten what an amazing guy he was, with major contributions to science, agriculture, farming, irrigation, architecture, education, invention, library science, etc., in addition to things like writing the Declaration of Independence, serving as President, etc.

After this, we went to the Holocaust Museum, where we saw part of a really cool display on Nazi propaganda.

And on the way we came across some upbeat, non-permanent graffiti:

And that, dear readers, concludes the story of our trip to Maryland and Washington, D.C.
