Black Wall

After the Lincoln Memorial we walked over to the Vietnam War Memorial.

I remember the controversy when it was built. It is rather different from many of the monuments, but I think it's very effective. It's very interactive -- many of the visitors were looking for specific names -- and very personal. It's amazing the way it's just a wall, but it grabs your attention and you forget that there's anything around you but the wall. I don't remember being aware of the grass and trees right next to the path, until you get to the end of the wall and it feels like you're slowly emerging back into the real world. It was an interesting experience.
