In General Conference, on October 6, 2012, President Monson announced that the minimum age for women to serve as missionaries was changed from 21 to 19. Lisa, just barely 17 at the time, was ecstatic. She spent the rest of conference making one of the longest paper chains ever, counting down the days until she could serve.
She kept up tearing off links for nearly two years. When she went down to BYU last semester she forgot to take the chain (now down to about 20 links), so then when she got home after the sememster she repurposed the chain to counting down the days to the MTC.
At last the long-awaited day arrived (127 days from her call, 27 and a half months from when she started counting down).
There was much shopping and organizing and packing. (Unfortunately we missed getting a photo when everything was laid out on the floor -- it was truly spectacular.)
Tuesday afternoon everything was in and ready, and we drove down to Utah. Our friends the Palmers kindly let us stay with them.
Wednesday morning Lisa met up with her roommates (and good friends) from last semester for breakfast and a lot of happy conversation.
Then we took a few photos...
... and went to the MTC...
... for the start of her 18-month adventure.
