Monkey Bridge

For the past couple of months I've been teaching the Pioneering merit badge to our 11-year-old Scouts. For the final activity, they built a monkey bridge in our back yard. They did a pretty good job.

It was pitch dark by the time it was done, so I didn't get very good photos.

Here is the group that built it.

We couldn't come up with any long poles -- it would have been fun to use 10- or 12-foot poles and get it farther off the ground, but the best we could find was 8-foot poles. That put the ends of the bridge about four feet off the ground. Still, that wasn't bad for kids this size.

Here are a few shots of our kids goofing around on it after the Scouts were done.

It was a lot of fun! Daniel most have gone across it 30 times. He wanted to leave it up permanently. :)
